Mid-Summer Days

Working on some new work in my metals studio, in the meantime full-filling some Discovery Tote Orders to be shipped to Australia!

We bought a 26 foot O'day! So exited to be a new owner of this beautiful boat. The plan is to sail a bout' Kentucky lake with dreams of sailing around the world one day, Australia to be specific. Maybe this week is a bit of coincidence?

This girl. Steals my heart.

Drip, Drop, Splat

helicopterstudios.etsy.com

Exploring drips and drops I have found this recurring shape in my work.  I am working on some new pendant pieces that focus on more of a splat.  This came about from a project I taught this past semester using ink splats and drips on paper then blew with a straw.  We tapped into our inner Surrealist persona to "see into" the drips and create a series of images that were in the end identifiable beyond a drip.

Play Objects

I was looking through some old slides trying to find some student work from my 3D classes that I taught during grad. school and found this video. This is a video I shot for my MFA exhibition to play during the show. This is my husbands hands playing with the objects and a great friend Steve Kostell helped me edit the video. My committee was against me forgoing any type of cover over my work while my show was up because the pieces were not secure. I played the video to give the viewer an idea of how the objects could be manipulated. The coolest part of the playing the video was the sound that the vessels made. Although showing the video on a continuous loop stopped know one from picking them up and playing with them.........I even had some tiny 1" vessels that were shaped like spinning tops. In the end, nothing was stolen and I was happy with my choice. Like my kids tell me...."Life is multiple choice"!

New Work: Commissions

These "Secret Keepers" just shipped off to South Australia! These little babies helped the push to get my metal working space carved out here at home. Granted it is in the garage which can be hot at times but, not as many spiders as one would think! I am loving metal work right now. I guess absence makes the heart grow fonder even when it comes to making art. More to come....I am planning on making some new work for the Murray State Alumni Show coming up in October.

My New ETSY shop---Heilo Studios

This piece is a small sterling silver vessel that is about 1x1x1 inches. It is hollow and holds a strip of archival handmade paper that attaches to the inside of the lid. When the view opens the lid, out comes the paper. The idea here is that you can write an message or sentiment to whomever it is intended for and when they open it they can read your thought. I give them to my children for birthdays.
So, I bounce back-and-fourth between metalworking and stitching. I have had some of these pieces on hand and decided to open up a second etsy store. I am calling it Heilostudios, I wanted to put the two together somehow. In my mind they should be in the same store but, I felt business wise this was a smarter decision. Please, check it out!!!!
